European markets rebounded yesterday after weaker sessions on the first two days of the week. Most markets posted gains of over 1% as all eyes begin to turn to the ECB rate announcement and subsequent press conference today.

An Irish property investment company has secured a €90.7m deal to buy adjoining office buildings in the heart of Dublin’s financial district.

After days of steady decline, eurozone markets showed gains yesterday as investors are looking ahead to today’s ECB meeting where a cut in repo rates is expected.

The Iseq Index gained 74.61 points to 4,548.90 yesterday though volumes were light with little in the way of newsflow over the Christmas period.

The Iseq Index got off to a good start in its first day’s trading yesterday following Ireland’s successful exit from the EU/IMF bailout programme.

Shares in Dublin closed higher yesterday on the back of some positive results released by the likes of Smurfit Kappa, while also mirroring trends across other European bourses. The Iseq index gained 31.29 points to 4,428.39.

European markets hit a five-year high yesterday as expectations of monetary stimulus from the European Central Bank drove markets higher.

Markets across the eurozone all finished the week lower, with investors waiting on news of US and UK manufacturing data.

Unemployment figures in Europe rose again last quarter but at a slower rate, adding to the hope that the economy is coming out of recession. In the US, all eyes are on next week’s Fed meeting, as investors sit on the fence.

The Iseq advanced for the second day, adding 58.52 points to close at 4,248.69.

The Iseq increased 25.56 points yesterday to close at 4,104.87.

A mixed start to the week saw the Iseq dropping 6.81 points to 4,072.85 despite an early surge in pharmaceutical company Elan after news of a buyout by US drugmaker Perrigo.

The Iseq Index closed yesterday slightly in the red having remained relatively flat throughout the day. The exchange fell 8.56 points to 4,072.38.

The Iseq dropped below the 4,000 mark yesterday, closing down 59.88 points at 3,998.02.

Markets across the eurozone had a positive start to the week on the whole.

World shares extended gains yesterday as a good start to the US earnings season added to last week's strong jobs data.

European markets improved overall yesterday in contrast to Friday’s decline, helped by a late surge on Wall St following the release of strong US jobs data.
