Iseq rises as markets edge higher

European markets edged higher yesterday, with the Iseq increasing 35.28 points or 0.8% to close at 4,472.37.

In the financial sector, both AIB and Bank of Ireland advanced, the former adding 0.9c to close at 12.8c, the latter 0.1c better at 26.7c. Permanent TSB was unchanged at 4.1c, while insurance group FBD Holdings gained 70c to €16.30.

In the construction sector, Kingspan has issued a trading statement for the nine months to the end of September. Group sales have increased by 13% year-on-year, reflecting 14% growth in the third quarter. Shares in Kingspan closed up 17c at €13.17. The latest PMI for the Irish construction sector came in at 59.4 in October versus 55.7 in September. This is the second consecutive month that it is above the critical 50 level and the highest reading since Jan 2006. CRH gained 28.5c to €18.575.
