Cork weather and traffic: Light rain expected amid overcast weather

Overcast weather is set to define Friday's weather forecast in Cork, as occasional showers may occur across Munster.

Temperatures will peak around 18℃ in the afternoon. There will be brief spells of sunshine around 6pm, according to Met Éireann. There are expected to be moderate and gusty westerly breezes throughout the day.

Saturday is expected to begin dry, before clouds will increase and rain and drizzle will begin to form over Cork and Kerry.

Nationally, scattered showers will be present across Ireland, with most rainfall expected to be confined in the north and west.

Conditions on Saturday evening will initially be cloudy and damp, before becoming drier overnight as the rain becomes more isolated. Sunday is expected to be mild and humid with lowest temperatures of 13 to 16℃.

Monday morning will be dry with sunny spells but it will become cloudy, wet and breezy for the afternoon as a spell of rain moves in from the west. Top temperatures of 15 to 18℃ are expected. 

Traffic 

Traffic across Cork is expected to be largely quiet this morning. 

Traffic between the Wilton roundabout and Dennehy's Cross is moving slowly.

Road closures on the N28 around Carr’s Hill may delay traffic.

Road users in Co Mayo can expect heavier traffic as Irish Rail services continue to be disrupted following a “serious incident” where a train collided with a car and train on the Westport- Dublin line.

The line between Westport and Athlone is due to remain closed until further notice.

Replacement bus transfers have been organised for commuters, while the Banilla to Manulla services will operate through to Claremorris.
