Couple's deaths after suspected mechanical problem with jacuzzi have left 'immeasurable void'

The deaths of an Irish mother and her husband near a jacuzzi while on holiday in Spain have left “an immeasurable void” in the lives of all who loved them, a tribute to the couple says.

Thomasina Tobin (née McArdle), formerly of Cabra, Castleblayney, in Co Monaghan, and her husband Patrick (Paddy) Tobin, originally from Wellington, New Zealand, were found dead by their teenage children at the jacuzzi in their rented holiday villa in the coastal town of Cullera south of Valencia on August 24.

A mechanical problem in the jacuzzi is believed to have caused their deaths.

“Thomasina and Paddy shared a life filled with love, family and friendship. Their sudden passing has left an immeasurable void in the lives of all who knew and loved them," their death notice on RIP.ie said.

“Thomasina and Paddy will be deeply missed by their children, their families, relatives and many friends."

Their sudden, tragic deaths were announced with “profound sadness”, the RIP.ie notice says.

“May they rest in eternal peace together."

Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.

Family flowers are requested only with donations in lieu, if desired, to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Fund, which helps families whose loved ones die suddenly abroad to bring their bodies back home.

Mourners have already begun to share their condolences on the couple’s death notice, which was published today.

One wrote: “Sincere condolences to all who have loved and lost Thomasina and Patrick.

“A heartbreaking end to two wonderful lives. May they rest in peace.” Mrs Tobin graduated from Trinity College Dublin before moving to London where she built a successful career in quantity surveying and construction, working on major projects including iconic hotels such as The Ritz and The Shangri-La at The Shard in London.

Her family in Co Monaghan is well-known and highly respected in the GAA and arts communities.
