Those campaigning for the preservation of the last extant 1916 battlefield are relieved that the State has at last acted to preserve nos 14 - 17 Moore Street.

Chartered Land and their agents were unreliable guardians of such an important monument, in an area declared by the National Museum as “the most important historic site in modern Irish history”.

The announcement is welcome and there is now the opportunity to develop this area in keeping with its historic significance — it is the location of the last stand of the volunteers of 1916 and the last HQ of the provisional government.
