Charity begins at home

THE Government has just announced a substantial increase in overseas aid to the Horn of Africa to assist the people of the area.

This occurs at the same time the Government announced reductions in fuel and telephone allowances to older people here in Ireland.

While I accept assistance is needed to support the people in the Horn of Africa, we must remember the problems in that area are compounded by governments who support their personal lavish lifestyles in addition to spending substantial amounts on weapons and military equipment used to support their corrupt administrations.
