Three arrested after gun attacks on family home
The three arrested are being held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act as part of the investigation into shootings at Lenihan Avenue.
The most recent attack was carried out at 2.35am on Friday when shots were fired into the house where a family, including children, were living. Nobody was hurt.
The same house was the target of a gun attack two weeks ago.
In both incidents, semi-automatic hand guns were used.
The man arrested in garda swoops on the south side of Limerick yesterday is suspected to have links to members of a gang involved in the murder of Noel Campion, 35, who was shot dead in 2007, as he was travelling in Thomondgate on a motorbike.
Noel Campion had stopped at a busy junction in morning traffic, when a gunman emerged from a phone kiosk and shot him. He died at the scene.
The murder was carried out in retaliation for the murder of “Fat Frankie” Ryan, 21, who was shot dead in Moyross in 2006.
Ryan, who was a leading figure in the McCarthy Dundon Moyross drugs operation was shot dead by Garry Campion.
Gary Campion was a brother of Noel Campion and Noel Campion was targeted in retaliation.
Garry Campion was subsequently found guilty of the murder of “Fat Frankie” Ryan and jailed for life.
Garry Campion was also jailed for life for his role in the murder of nightclub security man, Brian Fitzgerald who was gunned down outside his home in Corbally in 2002.
Gardaí suspect that the two Lenihan Avenue gun attacks may have been carried out as a warning over a sexual affair and not be feud-related.
The two women arrested yesterday are in their 20s.
