Triple success at Wexford auctions shows demand for smaller parcels of land
The 20.38-acre farm at Nash, Co. Wexford, that sold at auction for €381,000.
It was a busy end of February and start to March for Ann Carton of New Ross-based auctioneers P N O’Gorman, with three sales resulting from three auctions.
On Wednesday, February 28, a 20.38 acre holding at Nash, Gusserane, County Wexford, went under the hammer at The Horse & Hound, Ballinaboola.
The excellent quality land — featured on these pages in the edition of February 22 — was guiding at €14,000 to €16,000/acre.
“There was strong interest,” says Ann, “resulting in the lands selling under the hammer for €381,000 (€18,700/acre) to an adjoining tillage farmer. There were three bidders altogether, with bidding opening at €220,000.”
The following day, another 32-acre parcel in the nearby townland of Cloonagh was scheduled to be auctioned, with a guide price of €10,000 to €12,000 per acre.
It was, instead, sold prior to auction to a local solicitor acting in trust.

The final auction of the week was on Friday, March 1. This was a smaller roadside pasture holding of 10.6 acres at Ballinaboola, just off the N25.
With a derelict farmhouse thereon, the auction attracted several bidders; opening at €100,000, the lands were sold under the hammer at €360,000 (€34,000/acre) to a local farmer.
“The results clearly show the demand for smaller parcels of land,” Ann commented afterwards.
