An Taisce subjected to a display of ignorance
Perhaps people are looking for scapegoats because their own inability to recognise bad planning and development demands that they belittle others.
If planners appear to hold An Taisce's views on planning matters above those of the Irish Rural Dwellers Association (IRDA), it could be that they make more sense. For years An Taisce warned of the unplanned sprawl in Dublin. An Taisce received similar abuse yet it was right.
The situation is now so bad in Dublin that roads are choked, forcing residents to queue in their cars just to get out of their estates.
Our countryside will soon become a suburban sprawl if we continue to build in the manner in which we are now doing. Yet the IRDA appear little concerned at this potential destruction. It is not in anyone's interest that things should continue in this manner. Good planning is as essential in rural Ireland as it is in urban Ireland. The IRDA is very concerned with planning permissions, but shows little interest in planning.
