Bridge is as pointless as the fuss about its name
It looks out of place in its surroundings and its cost could have been put to better use in the clean-up of the River Lee, which in today’s world is practically medieval, more like a flooded landfill than a river.
Also, the naming of the bridge and the whole debate surrounding it is complete nonsense.
No matter what it’s called (Roy Keane Bridge; Frank O’Connor Bridge; Christian Scully Bridge; Shandon Bridge etc) it will probably only be known as the Coal Quay Bridge or The Cornmarket Street Bridge and not by its official name.
How many people know that the bridge at the end of Shandon Street is called Arthur Griffith Bridge when it is known to Cork people simply as the North Gate Bridge?
