Look again at road safety on bypass

WITH all the experience that the National Roads Authority (NRA) and their agents have in designing new roads and motorways all over Ireland one would have thought that by now good design would be second nature. Sadly this is not so.

Look again at road safety on bypass

Take the Curraheen interchange which as originally designed had four ramps two on and two off.

The NRA in its wisdom has now decided to abolish the on ramp for westbound traffic from the Curraheen interchange. This means that all traffic originating in Bishopstown and its environs that wishes to travel westwards has to continue its journey along a narrow country lane (that has dangerous bends and restricted bridge width) before it can access the remaining 3.5 miles of the Ballincollig bypass at the Pulavone Interchange.
