We don't just need to limit the number of TDs, we need radical reform of our electoral system

Last week, Independent Senator Michael McDowell introduced a motion in the Seanad to cap the number of TDs. In his opening remarks, he highlighted that based on our current model, the number of TDs could grow to 185 in the next two years alone. 

I think it's safe to say that most people would nod in agreement with any argument for fewer politicians, but capping the number of TDs is merely treating a symptom. What we actually need is radical reform, focused on building an electoral and legislative system that delivers better outcomes.
