Dublin's M50 experiencing severe delays after serious accident

The southbound side of the M50 remains closed, and 'severe' delays affected Tallaght and other nearby areas in the hours afterwards.

A man and a woman in their 80s have been seriously injured in a single-car collision on Dublin's M50.

It happened at about 3.20pm on the southbound side of the road, near the Ballymount ramp.

The Irish Times reported that the car in which the couple were travelling drove off a bridge near the Ballymount exit.

Both the man and the woman have been taken to hospital for treatment.

Diversions were in place, and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) urged motorists to use a different route.

The collision was cleared by the evening but TII warned delays would continue.
