The unspoken issue

A COUPLE of significant things have happened in the wake of the Lisbon referendum.

First, an official survey of the causes of the outcome has revealed that a contributory factor was immigration — yet mass migration was never an issue between both camps. Neither side, then, addressed one of the real concerns of voters.

Next, a few days after the referendum, Franco-German officials announced ambitions to form a EU navy. Was this announcement deliberately deferred to avoid antagonising Irish voters? Or was its timing merely coincidental?
