Short route to success

REFORM of the ‘open skies’ agreement between the EU and US was meant to herald a new departure for airlines on the transatlantic route.

Short route to success

Aer Lingus’s announcement of the axing of its Dublin-Los Angeles route later this year, coupled with a reduction in transatlantic services, can only undermine its successes over the past 12 months — not to mention the proposed transatlantic route from Cork.

The Cork Airport Authority (CAA) should abandon its idea of a Cork-New York or Boston service. Along with Aer Lingus, the CAA should focus on developing new short-haul routes that benefit them as well as the travelling public.
