Sinn Fein concerned about delays in Stevens Inquiry

The Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams has expressed concern about the length of time it has taken the Stevens team to complete their inquiry and produce a report.

They are looking into allegations that members of the loyalist Ulster Freedom Fighters were given information by members of the security forces to target victims.

The most controversial case where collusion has been suspected was the murder of Belfast solicitor Pat Finucane in his north Belfast home in 1989.

At today's meeting between Sinn Fein and the Steven's team in Stormont, Gerry Adams was told that he and Martin McGuinness had been targeted during the1980s by loyalists, who were handled by members of the RUC Special Branch and Army Intelligence.

Martin McGuinness said neither he nor Gerry Adams had ever been informed by the RUC that they were loyalist targets or offered advice, help or assistance to take precautions.

"I have to say to the best of our recollections categorically we were never informed except through the broad media," said Mr McGuinness.
