SHAMROCK ROVERS joined Derry City at the top of the Airtricity League Premier Division last night, but not without a major scare at the home of basement side Galway.

Drogheda United will look to move clear of struggling Galway United at the foot of the table when the two sides meet tonight at Hunky Dorys Park, kick-off 7.45pm.

ST PATRICK’S ATHLETIC closed the gap on Shamrock Rovers to a point in the Premier Division last night, but they didn’t have it all their own way against the league’s basement club, which played the majority of the second half with 10 men.

AS comfortable a win as was expected brought a difficult week to a satisfactory end for Shamrock Rovers as the champions maintained their three point lead at the top of the table in inflicting a 12th league defeat in succession on bottom side Galway.

GOALS from Dean Bennett, Johnny Breen, Mark Quigley and Daniel Kearns saw Dundalk come from behind to record a comfortable 4-1 win over 10-man Galway United in the FAI Ford Cup third round.

DROGHEDA UNITED recorded their first win of the season to climb off the foot of the table in the battle of the basement clubs in Terryland Park last night.
