Despite an early lead, struggling Galway finished with ten men as they were unceremoniously dumped out of the FAI Cup at Oriel Park.

Alan Murphy gave Galway, who are currently bottom of the Airtricity League, the lead after 13 minutes when slotting home from Mikey Gilmore's pull back.

But Dundalk were level within six minutes when defender Dean Bennett headed home Daniel Kearns' corner.

Johnny Breen then put Dundalk in front in the final minute of the first half after Mark Griffin played him in to dink the ball over advancing keeper Greg Fleming.

Two goals in the space a minute midway through the second half put Dundalk safely through to the fourth round.

Mark Quigley made it 3-1 on 75 minutes from a penalty after Kearns was fouled inside the area.

Winger Kearns then added the fourth goal within a further minute direct from a free-kick.

Galway, who have now lost eleven games on the spin, had defender Shaun Kelly sent off in stoppage time for a second bookable offence.
