87-acre farm in North Cork for a tempting auction at €9,500/acre
The farm is in Doonasleen South, 5km south of Kiskeam and just over 6km west of Boherbue.
Coming up for public auction at the Hibernian Hotel in Mallow on Thursday September 19 next is an 87-acre holding near Kiskeam in North Cork.
“It’s a farm that has been leased out for a number of years,” says selling agent Éamonn O’Brien of CCM Property. “And, in fairness to the two tenants, it has been well-farmed and well-managed over that time… the land quality overall is mixed but good in the main.”
The property is at Doonasleen South, 5km south of Kiskeam and just over 6km west of Boherbue. With a minor public road running through the farm, it will be offered in a series of lots:
Lot 1 consists of 49.5 acres of land, 35.5 acres of which are described as good quality by Mr O'Brien, with the remaining 14 acres being of lesser quality. The price guide of this lot is in the region of €9,000/acre.
Lot 2 is a 5.5-acre parcel with excellent road frontage and which is adjoining Lot 4 (with old farmhouse and farmyard), allowing for the option for someone to acquire additional quality acreage with a dwelling.

“These are of exceptionally good quality,” says Mr O'Brien, citing a price of €10,000/acre.
Lot 3 contains 31.25 acres across the road from the rest of the land. This features another old farmyard with two 3-column cubicle lean-to sheds and two silage pits.
“This farmyard dates from the 1970s,” says Mr O'Brien, guiding the lot at around €9,000/acre.
Lot 4 is a one-acre site containing a derelict farmhouse dating from 1876.
“There’s an option there of a residential smallholding with a round-roof hay barn, stone outbuildings, cobblestone yard and a hand-built well that goes down 35ft and which is lined with stone. It should qualify for the vacant property refurbishment grant. We’re guiding this lot at around €40,000.”
According to Mr O'Brien, this overall package is attracting a good deal of attention from nearby and farther afield in advance of the auction. With an overall price tag of approximately €9,500/acre, it should be very tempting.
