Brace of online auctions sees 30 acres of Wexford land average €21k/acre
The first auction was a 15.5-acre holding at Annagh, 12km from Gorey.
On Tuesday and Wednesday last week, Gorey-based auctioneers Quinn Property continued their run of successful online land auctions with two more sales.
The first was a 15.5-acre holding at Annagh, 12km from Gorey.
Access was via a 400m laneway off the Gorey-Tinahely road. The grasslands were of good quality and laid out to the rear of a derelict farmhouse and outbuildings.
With a pre-auction guide of €150,000 to €200,000, the agent noted an “encouraging amount of interest in the weeks leading up to the auction”, with six bidders pre-registered.
Bidding commenced at €130,000, moving quickly to €210,000. Following a short break, the property was “on the market”, prompting further rapid bidding, culminating in a price of €228,000 (€14,700 per acre); sold to a local farming family.
The following day, it was the turn of a 14-acre farm at Scarnagh Lower, on the Gorey-Arklow road, 11km from Gorey and 3km from the M11.
Although the land is in an excellent grassland area, this property has not been intensively farmed in a number of years. Its value lay in its potential, both as quality land and as a potential building site.
David Quinn was the man with the gavel again, citing a €10,000/acre pre-auction guide.
Bidding opened at €100,000 (€7,100/acre) but soon reached €320,000 (€22,800/acre). A break ensued.
With the property now on the market, bidding resumed apace, resulting in a grandstand finish and an astonishing price of €405,000 (€28,900/acre) — sold to a Wexford-based business.
