Over 1,000 new jobs could soon be on the way for Dublin.

The makers of the weight-loss drug Ozempic have applied for permission to build a massive new factory in Clondalkin.

Danish company Novo Nordisk has submitted plans to South Dublin County Council that would see a new manufacturing plant built in Grange Castle business park, totalling almost 150,000 sq m in size.

The €2bn project would generate 2,000 construction jobs, followed by 1,000 jobs in production and administration once the plant is up and running.

Consultants expect it to be fully operational by 2026.

The firm has been struggling to keep up with demand for the diabetes and weight-loss drug Ozempic after worldwide interest soared in the last year.
