Objection upheld as Fermoy declared winners over Ballinora in Cork PIFC tie

Fermoy’s objection has been upheld following a hearing on Tuesday night, with the McCarthy Insurance Group PIFC clash against Ballinora now officially recorded as a 0-22 to 2-15 victory for the North Cork side.

The game had originally appeared to finish level on the scoreboard at 0-21 to 2-15 last Saturday in Glenville, but the winner‑takes‑all Group 3 Round 3 tie was thrown into doubt after referee Wayne King was found to have made a scoring error.

Fermoy were forced to lodge an objection — an appeal that has now been successful.

The controversy centred on a crucial first‑half sequence. Fermoy’s Ben Twomey kicked a point in the 30th minute, followed moments later by a superb two‑point effort from the same player. That should have brought Fermoy to 0-10 at the break, but only nine points were officially noted.

Once Twomey’s additional score was verified, Fermoy’s final tally rose to 0-22, enough to edge Ballinora’s 2-15 by a single point.

Ballinora — last year’s IAFC champions — had led 2-7 to 0-9 at half‑time after striking for two first‑half goals, but the corrected scoring sequence has changed the outcome entirely.

The decision places Fermoy into the quarter‑final picture against Rockchapel. Macroom will meet Naomh Abán in the other quarter-final match.

Ballinora have the right to appeal the ruling.
