Confusion over Mutu's Juve talks

THERE were conflicting reports last night that Romania striker Adrian Mutu, banned for seven months for taking cocaine, is involved in talks with Italian giants Juventus.

Confusion over Mutu's Juve talks

Mutu, sacked last month by Chelsea for his positive dope test, has signed a deal with an Italian management company led by Alessandro Moggi. Alessandro is the son of Juve managing director Luciano Moggi.

A Juventus official claimed Mutu would be in the stands for last night's victory over Fiorentina, which saw the Turin side extend their lead at the top of Serie A.

The spokesperson added: "Then he will meet some important people at the club."

A source close to Mutu said the player would first meet his Italian agent and a lawyer in Milan to analyse the effects of the cancellation of his contract with Chelsea.

"Mutu and his agents want to know all possible consequences of his separation with Chelsea before starting substantial talks with Juventus," the source said.

The 25-year-old joined Chelsea from Parma for £15.8 million last year and was on the verge of joining Juventus on loan in August, but the sides failed to agree terms.

Mutu, banned by the FA, can resume playing next May after undergoing a drug education and rehabilitation programme.

However Juventus press spokesman Marco Girotto dismissed suggestions of talks with Mutu and said he was "absolutely not" attending the game.

Girotto added: "We have no information about Mutu."
