"On Thursday afternoon thousands of people spilled into the Site d’Escalade to witness the world’s best go for gold in the speed version of rock climbing. This is basically a series of races between two competitors up a pair of identical 15-metre walls rigged with protrusions. And they do it at breakneck speed."
Brendan O'Brien spent a productive afternoon at the speed climbing action, it seems.
The second round of the women's tournament at Le Golf National has wrapped up.
The Irish pair of Stephanie Meadow and Leona Maguire are way, way back on eight and 13 over respectively.
With no cut, they'll have to stick around tomorrow.

"Every sports fan looks at the Olympics differently. We become experts in diving, sailing, and skateboarding. We shake our heads if a hurdler’s technique is not quite right, or a long jumper misses the board. We find ourselves randomly saying stuff like “kick speed is swim speed”. Some of us look at Olympic handball and think it is very like modern Gaelic football. Others look at Olympic handball and say it is better than modern Gaelic football.
The volleyball spike, the Ippon in judo, the dismount from the beam – you name it, for two weeks, we’ll know it."
Read Jack Anderson's take on the Games and some of the legal issues they've thrown up, as always.
A warning from Cathal Dennehy; don't miss the women's 400m hurdles final tonight.

Kellie Harrington has said she is "done and dusted" with boxing after she secured her second Olympic gold medal in Paris.
Harrington, a native of Portland Row in Dublin, became only the fourth Irish athlete to retain an Olympic title when she defeated Wenlu Yang of China on Tuesday night in Roland Garros. In the immediate aftermath of the fight, she said that the fight was "the last one."
Speaking to Morning Ireland on Thursday, she reaffirmed that she was hanging up her gloves. "I know now — done, dusted and what a way to go out."
"The fact that I know that I am now done, and the fact that I am finishing this way [is great], because a lot of the time people don't know when to finish, and I'm happy that I am making that decision to finish it this way, my way, and go out as a double Olympic champion."
Both Leona Maguire and Stephanie Meadow sit on one over, and seven over overall after four and two holes, respectively.
After a disappointing round of 78 yesterday, Cavan golfer Leona Maguire has bogeyed the first and parred the second on day 2 at Le Golf National in Paris.
