Every sports fan looks at the Olympics differently. We become experts in diving, sailing, and skateboarding. We shake our heads if a hurdler’s technique is not quite right, or a long jumper misses the board. We find ourselves randomly saying stuff like “kick speed is swim speed”. Some of us look at Olympic handball and think it is very like modern Gaelic football. Others look at Olympic handball and say it is better than modern Gaelic football.

The volleyball spike, the Ippon in judo, the dismount from the beam – you name it, for two weeks, we’ll know it.
