Seve Ballesteros has spoken of his disappointment at a snub from the Ryder Cup committee which means the former winning captain is likely to be absent from this month’s renewal.

Ballesteros, who captained Europe to victory in 1997, was hoping to be invited to attend the event in Detroit.

It is understood committee policy dictates that only the last team captain is accorded an automatic invitation.

But the Spaniard told Radio 5 Live: “I think some people have short memories. It is a little bit sad – but what can I do?”
