David Duval followed Vijay Singh in pulling out of a pre-British-Open press conference today.

The winner three years ago, Duval has had a nightmare slump to 490th in the world since then and turned his back on the game for seven months before making a comeback at last month’s US Open. He shot 83-82 and finished second-last.

The American flew in on Monday night and was out practising on Tuesday, watched by only a small fraction of the photographers and reporters expected to be on the first hole at 7.36am tomorrow, when he is due to tee off with Swede Carl Pettersson and New Zealander Craig Perks.

Singh was unwell but later turned up to practice.
