This seven-bedroom, detached Lane Homes house at Cois Chuain, in Glounthaune, was bought off the plans in 2003 by the owners, who made some immediate modifications.

The mother-of-three owner, who’s now living in London, says: “We added a conservatory and attic-level rooms at that stage.

“Later on, around 2013, we opened up the main living space downstairs and added an extension to the utility room.”

The house is defined by space, with seven bedrooms and an accompanying four bathrooms and a substantial garden that is bifurcated by a curving driveway that ends in a T-shape at the front of the house, with parking to the left and to the right of the front door.

“It’s been a great house for entertaining,” the owner says. “We’ve had all the usual communions and confirmations here and everyone came for Christmas; and for my husband’s 40th, and then for my 50th we had up to 80 or 90 people — any excuse for a party, really!”

More routine family life was also easily handled here, because this home, on a 0.34-acre site, is only 130m from ‘the school around the corner’, Scoil Náisiúnta An Chroí Naofa, and there are several secondary schools in the wider area or within a drive to the city.

Having moved to Britain for work and with their children grown, it’s time to sell this house: “Really, it’s been a dream home,” the vendor-owner says.

“Everyone in the area moved in around the same time, when the houses were first built, and there were close friendships with growing families. People always met up at the green, or ‘the circle’, and it was so lovely.”

The kitchen was updated by Glenline in 2013 and has an island with marble countertops, integrated dishwasher and wine cooler, and a Rangemaster oven with five gas hobs.

The dining area has plantation shutters and French doors leading to the west-facing patio.

“There’s a patio at the back, too, so it’s great to be able to follow the sun from one to the other and you’ve got great privacy here. And it’s been a real pleasure tending to the garden over the years.”

Upstairs, on the first level, are the first four bedrooms. The main one, with views over to Lough Mahon, has its own dressing room and en-suite bathroom. Two of the other bedrooms on this level have walk-in wardrobes.

And on the top level there are another two bedrooms, with velux windows, and a home office/study room.

The location of the house, and its proximity to amenities and services, and its accessibility for visitors, comes in for particular mention from Brian Olden, of Cohalan Downing.

He says: “You’re just 7km east of Cork City, with swift access to the Jack Lynch tunnel, and you’ve got a frequent rail service to the city every 15-20 minutes from the local Glounthaune train station.”

There’s plenty of room, too, at the top of the sweeping driveway to park your own transport and there’s an electric-car charging point outside.

The four most recent sales at Cois Chuain, of neighbouring houses, in 2024 and 2025, have been for figures ranging from €610k-€962k.

This home, No 14 Cois Chuain, fits right in with these with a guide price of €950k.

VERDICT: Lots of space and plenty style at this home above the north shore of Cork harbour.
