Gardening shines a bright idea on mental health

Gardening is a great pursuit to help all aspects of health, not just in terms of aerobic fitness but also mental health. 

There is great therapy to be had in the garden.

‘Shine’ is a national charity supporting people affected by mental ill health, and they are about to launch a mental health-themed community garden in Cork City.

The event will bring attention to the important issue of mental health, will highlight how community involvement, society talking about mental health, and activities such as gardening, can all be beneficial to well-being.

Shine’s Green Ribbon Garden, is a multifaceted development project led by the Basement Resource Centre.

It is co-produced by Basement members and participants from other services such as Rehab Care and Inniscarraig Day Centre, supported by Cork City Council, See Change, HSE South, and many other organisations and businesses across Cork.

The garden will host a variety of events for occasions such as World Mental Health Day and Cork’s Quarter Block Party.

The garden is located on Kyrl St in Cork city and the project is being launched on Friday 6th May at 2pm in St Peter/s Church on the North Main St, all welcome.
