Vogue Williams: 'One thing that just ties a room together is a rug'

Following the purchase of a new forever house, the podcaster has designed six new pieces she promises 'will transform your space'

Having sold her long-held apartment in London, Vogue Williams is looking forward to moving into “the coolest house I’ve ever seen”.

The apartment, in Battersea, changed hands in July and Vogue has purchased what she describes as her “forever house” nearby, which she compares to her seaside residence in her native Howth. 

Speaking on her vlog in December, Vogue described the newly acquired London property as “the coolest house I’ve ever seen”: “This is our forever house. I know that people say that, but like it actually is our forever house.

“It's like my dream home I have in Ireland. And this is the dream home here where I think the kids will grow up. It's not too far from our old house, and so I think that they're going to be really happy there.” 

 

The new home will need renovation work, according to the media personality and podcaster, who is expecting her fourth child with her husband, Spencer Matthews. “God, there's so much to do,” she says, joking: “I'm having to put the reins on Spenny because he doesn't understand that actually I do have a degree in quantity surveying and I do know how much things cost, in and around, and the things he wants are just not in our budget.”

The podcaster, who has worked with designers Geri O'Toole of Geri Designs and Arlene McIntyre in her own living spaces over the years, adds: “I keep coming back to one thing that just ties a room together — a rug. Genuinely. Get the rug right, and the whole room just lands.”

Vogue has created a rug collection with family-owned homeware brand Kukoon. 

 

She promises the six Kukoon pieces “will transform your space”. “Honestly? I am so proud of them. Every single one brings something different to your home,” adds Vogue.

Working collaboratively with Kukoon’s design team, she viewed hundreds of rugs and then personally narrowed down her collection to six, choosing a combination of both classic and trending styles.

Four of the rugs are washable, making them especially appealing for families with pets.

Kukoon is led by co-founder Clare Vallely, who, alongside her brother Paul, transformed their father’s rug market business into one of Ireland and the UK’s leading online homeware brands. “I have always admired Vogue’s interior design taste," says Clare.

"After organically coming across images of Vogue’s gorgeous revamped Irish home, I knew I had to reach out and see if there was a chance to collaborate.

“Vogue has an incredibly keen eye for home interiors, and that really shone through in her choices for this collection. We’re so proud of this Kukoon X Vogue Williams launch and can’t wait to share it with our customers.”

The Zoe rug, which starts at €35, is “kind of a classic, kind of vintage”, says Vogue. “It’s like she’s been here forever, in the best possible way.

“Zoe works with everything. It's what I wanted for this house. Calm. Light. Nothing too loud.

“Just something that makes the room feel loved. If someone in the house, big or small, is a little bit clumsy. Zoe is also liquid-repellent and machine-washable.” 

The Cova

Vintage-inspired rugs aren’t just a trend; they’re a modern home essential, according to Vogue. “Cova is actually a mixture of jute and cotton. Again, completely washable! So practical for family homes,” she says.

Pricing for the Luma Rug starts at €70.

Creams and beiges soften Luma’s bold and linear design. “The groove creates a sense of balance and order with her offset symmetry and is perfect for rooms that need a neutral base that doesn’t feel plain or boring,” says Vogue.

Dahlia, priced from €70, is "the rug that does it all", according to Vogue.

 “It’s effortlessly cool, endlessly stylish, and always ready to pull a room together,” she says.

The Faro

Meanwhile, the Faro Rug starts at €35.

“A terracotta vintage boho rug. — yes, please. I am so obsessed with the terracotta, greens, and reds,” adds Vogue.
