Let the people decide if they want Bush here
The sight of him laughing with our leader over a bowl of shamrock can't help either. Perhaps I don't like it because I marched with 100,000 angry people against the use of Shannon by US forces.
Perhaps it's because I take two rush hour trains a day in central Dublin. Or perhaps it's because I would like to be alive to see my children grow up.
On whose behalf is our Government acting when it all but puts out advertisements declaring its love-in with the Bush administration.
On whose behalf is it ignoring Sellafield, Shannon and the impending Bush visit as issues that have the potential to bring mass murder to our country? If it is willing to have a referendum on citizenship rights, I think we could reasonably expect to be consulted in the same manner about our support for the US.
The Spanish people were not consulted and we are all too painfully aware of what happened there. In the name of my family and beloved country, I urge the Government to consult its people on this life-and-death issue and to take a rain-check on the shamrock bowls.
