Abusive driver needs to be taught lesson
I live in Carrigaline, which has to endure bad traffic and, frequently, bad driving. One morning recently I would have been attacked by a young male driver who only restrained himself because I was much taller than he and because there were witnesses. I beeped in order to avoid a crash when he cut in front of me at the roundabout.
His justification for using the wrong lane was that everybody else was doing so and anyway I was from a f***ing foreign country, so I could not tell him what to do.
If he had given me right of speech instead of a flood of bad language, I would have explained to him that:
(1) A foreign accent does not mean one is not an Irish citizen, which I am.
(2) The rule of the roundabouts is external lane for exits number one and two and internal lane for exits three and four, unless otherwise indicated.
(3) There are no roundabouts or rules in my native country, so I had to learn the Irish rules.
Clearly, my abuser needs to do likewise. However, I have to agree with him that 80% of Carrigaline drivers do not use the roundabout correctly. So what are the gardaí doing? Sitting and watching, as usual. But, what are the local driving schools doing?
