IN response to Edward Horgan (Irish Examiner letters, December 22), I did not accuse him of misquoting the Lancet report of 100,000 deaths in Iraq in my letter published on December 1.

I accused him of using those figures as though they were factual when, as he now admits, they are “estimates”.

The fact is that when the Lancet report was published, the death toll in Iraq as a result of the war may have been as low as 15,000 to 20,000, and may still be less than 40,000.
