Motorway lesson for slow learners

I WISH to protest about the difficulty of getting to my secondary school, the King’s Hospital in Palmerstown, Dublin, because of the heavily congested M50.

Motorway lesson for slow learners

I would be a day pupil not a boarder but for the long delays that must be endured virtually every time I take this motorway.

I experience this every Sunday night when I return to school after spending the weekend at home. The traffic is bumper-to-bumper most weekends but it is much worse on weekdays.

Last summer I was in Los Angeles. There were about four times the number of cars on the road, but there were five lanes going in each direction. This meant that cars could travel at about 70mph.

Americans think big, so they plan ahead. Ireland, in this case, thought small when the M50 was built. The Government needs to build about three more lanes in each direction. This, in my opinion, would solve the problem.

Maybe they do not want to fork out the money.

Whatever the reason, they should do something about it, and fast.
