Bottles should be returned to sender

RECYCLING waste is a big issue. Most people appreciate the depots available in towns and villages.

Bottles should be returned to sender

The cost is enormous - removal, sorting, incineration, wages.

Consumers have to pay for all this through taxes and other changes.

It is ridiculous, for instance, to see perfect jam jars and bottles - wine, whiskey, olive oil, etc - dropped at recycling depots, then transported, broken and remade before being used again.

Why don’t the companies who produce or provide wines, whiskeys, jams etc, take back the empties when they deliver to shops, as was done in the 1940 and ‘50s?

It would save a fortune and keep homes, hotels and shops much tidier.

Also, I think the Sunday papers are ridiculous - no one could read all that stuff, even if he or she did nothing else for a whole week.

Supermarkets and others should stop sending fliers and other junk mail through the post. This just adds to the volume of material for recycling.
