Health hazards we can all do something about

AN Bord Pleanála’s support for a commercial toxic waste incinerator in Cork Harbour resulted from “government policy” and “European pressure” to build one, according to Minister of the Environment, Martin Cullen.

Toxic waste has a home at present. It is exported and has no ill effects on the people of east Cork.

But what about litter, polluted rivers, broken bottles, empty beer cans, unauthorised dumping, dirty beaches, unauthorised signage from political parties, smoke pollution, dog excrement on pathways, cigarette butts, crashed cars left where they were burnt out, and much more?

All these are also a potential threat to our health.

And they can be found in every county in Ireland. Is it not government and European policy also to get rid of these hazards? Why not first clean up what is so obvious ?
