Don’t let the English tabloids wreak havoc in our goalmouth

THE MOST disturbing aspect of the Keane-McCarthy debacle has been the success of British tabloids in setting and ruthlessly pursuing their negative agenda.

Anyone familiar with the rise and fall of English football managers will be acquainted with their insidious style the portrayal of Graham Taylor's head as a turnip, the vilification of Glenn Hoddle for his personal beliefs and the intrusiveness bordering on voyeurism that is plaguing current manager Sven Goran Ericsson.

While the hounding of Mick McCarthy has been driven from many quarters, most Irish journalists have based their views on actual interviews, team selections and match results.
