Greed is to blame, and not secularism

PADDY O’REILLY states (Irish Examiner letters, January 15) that “our greatest enemy at present is the left-wing secular media.

Its agenda is to destroy the traditional family... and to corrupt our youth. One could justifiably say that our media is rotten to the core."

I agree that the media in general is fraught with 'sin and sensation,' but I disagree that it is so because it is left-wing or secular, rather that it panders to consumerism.

'Sin and sensation' sells. If no-one bought this material, the media would rapidly cease producing it.

But secularism is not synonymous with sin and sensation. There are many so-called secular people who do not consume this material, and many traditionalists who do.

I would also like to point out that the principles of left-wing ideology are similar to those of Christianity those of equality, justice, the sharing of resources amongst all. Traditionalism is evidently not synonymous with morality. The media is not the 'poison of society' it is merely a conduit for the real poison of society greed.
