ANN Cahill’s article entitled ‘Convention uncovers the Government’s euro-sceptic attitude’ (Irish Examiner, March 12) makes disturbing reading. She writes that our representatives at the Convention on Europe are actively endeavouring to curb the power of the EU in a number of crucial areas.

But isn’t this rather late in the day?

For example, Article 9 of the first official draft of the European Constitution includes the following: “The constitution and law adopted by the union institutions in exercising competence conferred on it by the constitution shall have primacy over the law of member states.”
