Rent-a-mob suggestion is really off the mark

I REALLY have to respond to your editorial of Saturday, October 11 — on the same day the Dublin Council of Trade Unions (DCTU) organised protest to Mountjoy Prison — attacking the anti-bin tax protestors.

What evidence do you have to support your claim we are a "rent a mob" crowd? What about all the trade unions who were present?

Also, you're incorrect in saying people outside of Dublin have meekly accepted these double taxation service charges. There have been many very vocal and militant campaigns against service charges, most notably in Cork city, Drogheda and Bray, but not excluding the many other campaigns elsewhere across the country.

The many people in these campaigns are hoping that the Dublin anti-bin tax protest is successful so service charges will be abolished nationwide.

One final thought: instead of subsidising the Church the same Church responsible for the sexual, physical and mental abuse of generations of Irish children only a fraction of this hundreds of millions of euro would be more than adequate to properly fund all local authority services nationwide.
