Driven to distraction while home on holiday
It is no wonder that more than 300 people died last year in traffic related accidents given drivers' misbehaviour.
Overtaking, tailgating, constant use of cellphones at the wheel and, in a lot of cases, smoking while on the phone and all while driving stickshift vehicles. While I accept the fact that road traffic has increased greatly since I was last home in 1998, and local authorities are doing everything in their power to fast-track road improvements, there is no excuse for the type of driving I witnessed while on holiday.
Please slow down. Leave home 10 minutes earlier and get there in one piece by reducing anxiety and stress behind the wheel.
Speed cameras are not the answer, even if they generate lots of revenue.
In Edmonton, Canada (population circa one million), speed cameras collect $41,000 a day!
Drivers' habits have to change. Hitting them in the pocket only embitters them more.
As for the Kinsale Road roundabout, it should be removed before a lot of people die in a fiery wreck.
I sat in line there for 25 minutes and observed the mess.
Why not employ an engineer who knows how to build an interchange?
I leave the rest to Cork County Council.
