No place for Catholics in making contraceptives

THE recent loss of jobs at Wyeth in Newbridge, Co Kildare, raises a moral question for Catholics working for international pharmaceutical manufacturing companies.

No place for Catholics in making contraceptives

As reported in the press, Wyeth produces contraceptive pills in its Irish businesses.

Catholics who are sincere about their religion should not work in these areas. Artificial contraceptives, in the case of humans, are always immoral and destructive, being designed to prevent the transmission of human life, and even to kill it after conception.

There are no conditions that would make these products permissible for human beings to use, and the deliberate use of them is always mortally sinful.

It stands to reason that any involvement in their production is always gravely sinful.

A very laissez-faire and even permissive attitude has grown-up about this particular vice, with many excuses being made which blur the reality.

The hierarchy and priesthood of the Catholic Church must come out strongly against artificial contraception, even if it means being vilified, because many people have allowed themselves to fall into the trap of self-deceit, including priests.
