Sudan: the solution

YOUR editorial (Irish Examiner, August 23) stated that “a generous public must keep giving” to Sudan and that €440 million was needed to prevent mass starvation.

Sudan: the solution

Maybe the multinational corporations could help out?

Citigroup, the New York-based bank, made $4 billion net profit in April/May/June last year. That’s $330m a week. IBM made $2 billion profit in the second quarter of this year.

Johnson & Johnson also made $2 billion in April/May/June of this year. That’s about $23 million a day.

Intel made $1.5 billion over the same three months. €440 million is peanuts to these people. They could save the lives of lots of children around the world if they so wished.
