Heavy toll on new motorway to Dublin
Users of the M50 have surely suffered enough, having paid for the toll bridge many times over only to be rewarded with gridlock and pollution.
The Government’s policy of tolling all before it is sickening when simple facts speak for themselves: we pay nearly €4 billion in motoring-related taxes, yet only €1.7 billion of this is spent on roads.
By the time the M3 is completed, should it ever get past the High Court, Cavan people will pay €11 per day in a double toll on this new motorway to Dublin.
The toll will also give the Government a nice VAT rebate.
What incentive will there be to construct a rail link to Meath, Cavan or Donegal in this event? Indeed, why is Cavan/Monaghan absent from the Transport 21 policy?
Why no rail link for Cavan/Monaghan? Why no clear timetable of delivery for the Dundalk/Sligo, east/west road link?
The Minister for Transport, Martin Cullen, presides over an inadequate transport network which leaves Ireland unable fully to reap the benefits of its booming economy.
Mr Cullen should resign.
