‘Flat-pack’ buildings a new form of urban blight

ANOTHER great building in Cork city is being demolished - this time the Capitol cinema complex.

‘Flat-pack’ buildings a new form of urban blight

What a legacy we’re going to leave to future generations, getting rid of all the buildings of character and replacing them with ‘flat-packs’. I can’t believe my eyes when I see the new buildings appearing on virtually every street in Cork.

Take Blackpool, for instance. One would think they’re putting up sheds with all the big steel girders. And they look just like sheds when they’re finished. They remind me of jigsaw puzzles - two dimensional, all tiled, all the same colour - lemon or orange pretend brick - each one the same as the last. All so ugly. How many more of these flat-packs will the planners allow?
