No one supports mean-minded policy

JUSTICE Minister McDowell tells us that 95% of the Irish people support his solution for some asylum seeker issues. This is patently untrue and uncorroborated.
No one supports mean-minded policy

What we can be 100% sure of is that whatever percentage support him includes every Irish person harbouring racial and colour prejudices, as well as all chauvinistic bigots believing themselves to be in some way superior beings to those in our society who find themselves in dependent and vulnerable circumstances.

The lives of asylum seekers must be extremely uncertain and even hazardous. Are not their children born here, Irish citizens, being deprived of a loving home environment to which every child is entitled, and which these parents must find it extremely difficult to sustain?

There is a mean-mindedness apparent in the meting out of this sort of merciless letter-of-the-law justice. No doubt some future justice minister will indulge in a Pontius Pilate apology to these children of Ireland who are about to be thrown out of their country.
