EU did not throw away Irish butter

IN recent times there seems to be a trend in Irish journalism to knock farmers at every opportunity regardless of the facts of the situation.

EU did not throw away Irish butter

I am disappointed that the Irish Examiner, which has a strong and honourable tradition of reporting accurately on the ups and downs of farming and its contribution to the economy, is now apparently following this trend.

I am sure that all at the Irish Examiner and your readership, particularly in the greater Munster area, know the importance of agriculture to the economy of the region. Against this background, I was surprised, if not shocked, at the break in tradition with your headline "A pound of it costs you 1.90. But last year the EU threw away 197 million of Irish farmers' butter" (Irish Examiner, June 27). This statement is inaccurate and misleading.
