Indaver obeys Government plan

IT is the view of Darina Allen and Allan Navratil (The Irish Examiner, August 13) that the Government has failed in its role to be a competent and efficient administrator with regard to waste management issues, in particular the requirement to deal with our hazardous waste.

Indaver obeys Government plan

Through the EPA, the Government has carried out a four-year strategy study on hazardous waste. The study got underway in 1997 and two years later a Proposed Hazardous Waste Management Plan was published for public consultation. During the consultation period the agency held public information meetings at six venues around the country and received a significant amount of written and verbal feedback on the plan.

The final plan, published in 2001, included: data and statistics on hazardous waste; recommendations on the prevention of hazardous waste; recovery and disposal options for hazardous waste including economic and environmental costs of the various options.
