Savoy closure shows small-town mentality
By removing the only medium-sized venue in the city, the courts have seriously impeded the chances of running spectacular events during this very important year.
As a venue, the Savoy was known far and wide for the quality and diversity of its acts. My sister and her friends enjoyed going to the well-run junior events there and I have heard nothing but good reports and memories from everyone I have spoken to in relation to the venue.
I think that this decision by the courts exposes a small-town mentality that Cork has to grow out of before 2005 if we are to take full advantage of the opportunities a Capital of Culture brings.
