The sisterhood of selective indignation

THE recent murder of Terri Schiavo by judicial execution in the US was carried out in a most cruel, inhumane and barbarous manner through the denial of food and water to an innocent and vulnerable human being.

This execution by a male judiciary, male, inhumane doctors (so much for their Hippocratic oath) and a heartless male husband did not even warrant a murmur of dissent from the sisterhood.

The same feminists who consider themselves the champions and protectors of their fellow-sisters have not uttered a compassionate word, or a heartfelt prayer. How sadly ironic.

It seems that the feminist movement is highly selective in the causes it champions and saving innocent humans life is not one of them. It is obvious that in their grand scheme of things saving, or pleading the cause of, innocent human life under a cruel, heartless patriarchy does not rank of great importance with them.

One would wait in vain for a comment or word of support from our own sisterhood here, yet all we have is a deafening silence which speaks volumes about the feminist movement itself.

It only chooses to speak out on certain issues and the most basic right of all, the right to life, is not one of them.
